Artist Profile
All of John's work is primarily a reflection of his life and interest.
He was born in Hull in 1960 and started to paint professionally in 1980.
Although initially working as a portrait artist around the holiday camps, this was not
the artistic direction he wished to take.
That said, the discipline of drawing from life in a somewhat hostile environment has proved
invaluable to his career.
A keen naturalist, John has for may years been an active falconer and beagler.
Flying a Goshawk and working Alice, his German Wirehaired Pointer, as well as whipping in for the
Hunsley Beacon Beagles enables John to be constantly inspired by the British countryside.
This, along with keeping many species of birds and mamals allows him the close contact with his subject,
which is vital to the execution of his work.
John does generally concentrate on native species, as these are what he sees, deals with and is inspired by.
